The Children’s House

"Community" would always be at the heart of humanitarian and social architecture, and for the design of the new children's house, the same is also true. Combating malnutrition in all its form is still one of the greatest global health challenges the world is facing today, and while it seems that architecture's role in this endeavor is rather indirect, the design of the children's house is centered on the communities' effort to develop and facilitate change, thus providing the stage for the active participants in this battle against malnutrition.

Under the intense light of the African sun, the architecture contemplates symmetry and ground. The structure announces its presence on the site, sharing the same quality as the ground upon which it stands, and provides shelter from the same humid tropical environment that complements its robust qualities.
